Jane and Chris Hibben 20th October 2022

Jane and Chris Hibben. JANE FIRST MET SARAH IN THE 1980s WHEN I TRANSFERRED FROM BRISTOL TO BATH DHSS. SHE GAVE ME SUCH A LOVELY WARM WELCOME INTO THE INSPECTORS’ ROOM: SO HELPFUL, KIND, FUNNY AND SOCIABLE. A WONDERFUL COLLEAGUE WHO, TOGETHER WITH PAUL, INCLUDED CHRIS AND ME IN THEIR SOCIAL LIFE. ONE OF SARAH’S FINEST QUALITIES WAS THAT SHE WAS ALWAYS UP FOR A CHEEKY LUNCH AT THE THEATRE VAULTS BRASSERIE. ON ONE VISIT THE WAITRESS BROUGHT OUR QUICHE AND SALAD ORDERS TO THE TABLE AND, WITH A COMPLETELY STRAIGHT FACE, ASKED LOUDLY “ARE YOU THE TWO LARGE TARTS?” SARAH JUST SMILED BEATIFICALLY AND GRACEFULLY GESTURED “YES’. IT WAS A GOOD JOB WE BOTH HAD A SENSE OF HUMOUR! WHETHER IT WAS BBQS AT DUNCAN GARDENS, A PYJAMA PARTY, A COSTUMED SEDAN CHAIR CHARITY RACE, AN OFFICE PLAY OR A CANAL BOAT TRIP - SARAH WAS PART OF IT; ALWAYS FULL OF IDEAS, CREATIVITY, SKILL AND ENTHUSIASM. OUR MEMORIES OF HER ARE ALL OF GOOD TIMES, FUN AND LAUGHTER. BUT THE REAL TEST OF A FRIEND IS HOW THEY REACT IN A CRISIS. SO WHEN, NEWLY PREGNANT I NEEDED HELP ON DISCHARGE FROM HOSPITAL, SARAH DROPPED EVERYTHING AND RACED ROUND TO STAY AND LOOK AFTER ME. I’VE NEVER FORGOTTEN THAT KINDNESS. SO, WHEN WHEN KITTY WAS BORN SARAH WAS HER FIRST VISITOR AT HOSPITAL AND BECAME A DOTING AND LOVING “AUNTIE”. WE KNOW WE ARE VERY LUCKY INDEED TO HAVE KNOWN SARAH AND CALLED HER OUR FRIEND.
